As February comes around we hold our annual Valentine’s Charity Dance. The scene is set with hearts and cupids decorations, the mood is set by dancing to love songs and the dancers are set in their reds and pinks to complement the theme.
As is custom we also operate a pre-loved square dance clothing sale during the night and this proved quite timely for our current group of dancers learning with us.
All proceeds from the night go to a charity we vote upon and this year it was the Royal Flying Doctor Service – a valuable asset to our rural communities.
Thanks to our helpers who set up the hall, to Nigel and Sheila who operated the the clothing stalls and to Alistair who provided his coffee machine as a welcome distraction.

2013 January 28th – Aussie Night

And so the year is off to a flying start as we celebrate Australia Day on the public holiday Monday. As is our custom, we asked the local youth group, the Flagstaff Venturers, to supply and cook a BBQ tea for us. It helps us and they raise funds for their group as well.
Really nice to a see great crowd complete with Aussie colours of green and gold or flag colours.
The pavs for supper were just the icing on the cake (sorry!) and through the night we danced using some Australian music and songs.
Thanks to all who joined in and to our committee and helpers who helped us transform the hall.
Great to integrate our learners in the night with alternating brackets too – we all had a ball!

2012 December 17th – Christmas Dinner and Breakup Dance

What a great way to finish up 2012! We put on a catered roast dinner and then ran a night of square dancing alternating levels for our Mainstream dancers and learners. There was a great crowd and really happy atmosphere. Thanks to Les Tulloch for dropping in and giving us a call and a couple of Rounds.
Looking forward to another year of fun at the Ouitlaws – we open again on Jan 14th at 8pm at learners level (but everyone’s invited) then on the 21st with learners at 7pm then MS at 8pm.
Have a great Xmas and New Year everyone – thanks for all your support.

2012 August 13th – Charity Social Dance

Our doors were open to the public for our Charity dance and we welcomed new friends along to learn some square dancing and raise funds for a worthwhile charity. We selected the Cancer Care Centre as our benefactor and all proceeds from the door, raffle and donations were presented to them at the end of the night.

What a crowd! The atmosphere was infectious as our new friends learned some square dancing and a few mixer dancers thrown in. In a matter of minutes the whole floor was dancing – not bad for just walking in off the street. It is really heart warming to see people enjoying themselves so much without television or electronic gadgets – just dancing with each other and meeting new friends.

Kevin Turner, the manager from the the Cancer Care Centre, was there to tell us about the organisation and was the pleased recipient of the money raised at the end of the night. We also welcomed two of his staff on the night – Fran and Jocelyn. Your boss dobbed you in!

We’re holding our doors open to the public until September 17th if you’d like to come along and take part in this wonderful activity. No prior dance experience needed, no need to have already been to this Charity Dance either. Just come, bring friends, family, colleagues and we’ll guarantee a fun night.

Thanks to everyone for your support of the Cancer Care Centre and our club. what a night!!

A new group of dancers were welcomed into the  world of Mainstream dancing on Dec 13th 2010. Congratulations to our new graduates – well done. Thanks to the great support of our regular dancers who came along to help celebrate the occasion too. Just in time for Christmas.  (Absent from the photo is Marie who couldn’t make it that night.)

2009 December 21st – Christmas Party Dance

To paraphrase Frankie Valli – “Oh What a night!!”. A fantastic crowd gathered for our last dance for 2009 and the atmosphere was electric. We Welcomed our learners to join us for a night of learners level, Mainstream and even some rounds. We kicked off with a catered dinner at 7pm and it was like the feeding of the five thousand. With swift arrangement of staged servings and some dancing we managed to get everyone fed with some great chicken and salads and still have plenty of time for dancing.

Our learners were with us most of the night and everyone  danced their hearts out. The hall looked great and thanks to some great helpers setting up the previous night and then before the dance, the hall really looked festive.

It wouldn’t be an Outlaws  Christmas without Santa entering the hall in another unusual mode of transport and this time, the centuries of racing around on Xmas eve had taken their toll – Santa arrived on a gopher! Me thinks Santa seemed to enjoy the ride as he steadily lapped the hall whilst the helpers gave out the treats. We noticed he then seemed to get more creative with his driving, looping around asnd reversing to the crowd’s delight. Bit if a lad our Santa.

It was a memorable evening and to top it off, Dawn had her Birthday on that night and was presented with a beautiful basket from the club. she worked so hard on the night keeping it all co-ordinated, the pressie was well deserved.

Thanks to all who attended, dressed in Xmas colours, brought the sumptuous desserts for supper, helped clean up and most of all, supported us during 2009.

We wish you all the best for the holiday season and look forward to more fun in 2010.

What a fantastic night it was! A great crowd of club members, new graduates and some visitors (family, friends). Congratulations to our graduates who received their certificates and a “welcome” pack from the Square Dance Society. Further presentations were made in subsequent weeks too as a few had been away and were catching up and a few off sick on the graduation night.

A big thanks to all who supported this program – the experienced dancers who came early to dance as “angels”, the committee who set up, Jan Stephens representing the Society and to everyone for making this night a memorable one. The supper spread was exquisite and the well made pizzas didn’t go un-noticed!

We welcome our new group at the Mainstream club on Monday nights and hopefully starting to venture out to other clubs & functions as confidence builds.
