Our annual Hallowe’en dance was held on Mon 27th October and what a great atmosphere. Great costumes and a big thanks to the committee and helpers for setting the scene with the amazing hall decorations. Also some very imaginative food!!

Here’s some photos of the interesting array of outfits on the night. (Click on photos to enlarge).

23rd BIRTHDAY – Sept 27th 2008. “Around the World”.

Around The World

What a great night it was as we celebrated our 23rd Birthday!

Thanks to so many who contributed – the committee and helpers for decorating the hall (a big job in that hall), all the dancers who dressed up to the theme – you looked great – and to Steve Turner, our feature caller. Steve did a great job and showed why he is well respected as a great caller. Thanks also to Les Tulloch for the cueing.

Here’s some photos taken on the night. (Click on photo to enlarge)

Another great evening’s feast of Pancakes served by the Pancake King during the Monday night dance.

Feeding of over 100 hungry square dancers is no easy task but the Pancake King and his assistant did a great job. As you can see from the pictures, pancakes were flying and being consumed at a great rate. Thanks to all who came along and supported this – very tasty fare!

American Night – Mon July 7th

A great night with many dressed in red, white and blue which really added to the atmosphere. The hall looked good with US flags and rosettes and the supper – what a feast. Mini hot dogs, donuts and apple pies supplemented with some creative fare brought by oour dancers.Liberty

We hope you enjoyed our musical tour through the states of America. It’s interesting to see how many songs relate to one state or another! New York, Mississippi, Hollywood, Rocky Mountains and more.

Thanks to our decorating crew and to everyone who came and made it a night with atmosphere.

What a fantastic night it was! A great crowd of club members, new graduates and some visitors (family, friends). Congratulations to our graduates who received their certificates and a “welcome” pack from the Square Dance Society. Further presentations were made in subsequent weeks too as a few had been away and were catching up and a few off sick on the graduation night.

A big thanks to all who supported this program – the experienced dancers who came early to dance as “angels”, the committee who set up, Jan Stephens representing the Society and to everyone for making this night a memorable one. The supper spread was exquisite and the well made pizzas didn’t go un-noticed!

We welcome our new group at the Mainstream club on Monday nights and hopefully starting to venture out to other clubs & functions as confidence builds.

Visit from German caller – Michael Steinhorst

Graham & Dawn, Karin and Michael Steinhorst(Click on picture to enlarge)

Back in January we received a visit from a German couple, Michael and Karin Steinhorst from Berlin. It was indeed good timing as they arrived for our annual “Aussie Night” and got a real taste of an Aussie BBQ, Aussie music and Aussie hospitality. Michael calls for the Berlin Square Ups club and entertained us with his calling at out MS club.

Arriving on the weekend prior to the dance gave us a chance to show them around our state a little with a trip to Victor Harbor.

If you can read German, check out their website at http://www.square-ups-berlin.de. (Use Google and you can translate).

We were thrilled to receive a return visit from Duke Okada from Osaka in Japan. Duke visited us back in 2006 and returned this year with his wife and two children for a brief holiday in Adelaide. In visiting both our MS and Plus clubs, we were priveleged to have him call. He has a smooth style and is very clear and he quickly endeared himself to our dancers. Their visit coincided with our Adelaide Idol easter Dance and I think they were quite entertained by the outstanding talent of our dancers.

Whilst here, we took the opportunity to expose them to some of the culinary delights that Adelaide has to offer and give them a sample of the Adelaide Festival with a tour of the “Northern Lights” display on Adelaide’s North Terrace.

We say “Arigato” (thankyou) and syonarrah to our Japanese friends and hope we shall cross paths again in the future.

Check out Duke’s club website on our “Square Dance Resources” links page. Why you might even spot some Aussies there!
