2009 December 21st – Christmas Party Dance

G&D on stage

Graham & Dawm receiving their naughty list from club President Eddie.

To paraphrase Frankie Valli – “Oh What a night!!”. A fantastic crowd gathered for our last dance for 2009 and the atmosphere was electric. We Welcomed our learners to join us for a night of learners level, Mainstream and even some rounds. We kicked off with a catered dinner at 7pm and it was like the feeding of the five thousand. With swift arrangement of staged servings and some dancing we managed to get everyone fed with some great chicken and salads and still have plenty of time for dancing.

Our learners were with us most of the night and everyone  danced their hearts out. The hall looked great and thanks to some great helpers setting up the previous night and then before the dance, the hall really looked festive.

It wouldn’t be an Outlaws  Christmas without Santa entering the hall in another unusual mode of transport and this time, the centuries of racing around on Xmas eve had taken their toll – Santa arrived on a gopher! Me thinks Santa seemed to enjoy the ride as he steadily lapped the hall whilst the helpers gave out the treats. We noticed he then seemed to get more creative with his driving, looping around asnd reversing to the crowd’s delight. Bit if a lad our Santa.

It was a memorable evening and to top it off, Dawn had her Birthday on that night and was presented with a beautiful basket from the club. she worked so hard on the night keeping it all co-ordinated, the pressie was well deserved.

Thanks to all who attended, dressed in Xmas colours, brought the sumptuous desserts for supper, helped clean up and most of all, supported us during 2009.

We wish you all the best for the holiday season and look forward to more fun in 2010.

2009 September 26th – 24th Birthday

Dancing through the Decades.

Our theme this year had a different decade for each bracket. Great to see so many dress to the theme with a wide variety of costumes. I’m not sure where the hillbillies came from though! A great atmosphere and fantastic support from all clubs. Thanks to Les Tulloch, Jeff Seidel, Thelma McCue for help on the program and a special guest appearance by “retired” James Reid.

A lot of help from the committee and other helpers made the hall and supper something to remember. Why I’m sure even our life sized Elvis was all shook up! Take a look at some of the photos of our caller Graham and the night of fun. Thanks to Roger M for most of these. (Click to enlarge picture)

2009 August 10th – Pancake Night – a night with Royalty!

This makes the feeding of the five thousand seem like a family picnic! We again invited the Pancake King and his serving maiden to cook and dish out as many pancakes as a gathering of square dancers could eat. A big ask of anyone! So many enjoyed the fare and were seen queueing up for seconds, thirds, fourths and more. Scott and Kaye – the Pancake King and assistant, did a great job and I think this year his aim is improving or dancers are getting better at catching the flipped crepes. Here’s some photos… (click on image to enlarge)

Here’s some photos from our very green Spud night held in March. Not  only were the decorations and outfits green but so was a lot of the food! The Spud caterers did an excellent job of keeping up with demand and a grand night was had by all. Begorrah!

23rd BIRTHDAY – Sept 27th 2008. “Around the World”.

Around The World

What a great night it was as we celebrated our 23rd Birthday!

Thanks to so many who contributed – the committee and helpers for decorating the hall (a big job in that hall), all the dancers who dressed up to the theme – you looked great – and to Steve Turner, our feature caller. Steve did a great job and showed why he is well respected as a great caller. Thanks also to Les Tulloch for the cueing.

Here’s some photos taken on the night. (Click on photo to enlarge)

What a fantastic night it was! A great crowd of club members, new graduates and some visitors (family, friends). Congratulations to our graduates who received their certificates and a “welcome” pack from the Square Dance Society. Further presentations were made in subsequent weeks too as a few had been away and were catching up and a few off sick on the graduation night.

A big thanks to all who supported this program – the experienced dancers who came early to dance as “angels”, the committee who set up, Jan Stephens representing the Society and to everyone for making this night a memorable one. The supper spread was exquisite and the well made pizzas didn’t go un-noticed!

We welcome our new group at the Mainstream club on Monday nights and hopefully starting to venture out to other clubs & functions as confidence builds.

Visit from German caller – Michael Steinhorst

Graham & Dawn, Karin and Michael Steinhorst(Click on picture to enlarge)

Back in January we received a visit from a German couple, Michael and Karin Steinhorst from Berlin. It was indeed good timing as they arrived for our annual “Aussie Night” and got a real taste of an Aussie BBQ, Aussie music and Aussie hospitality. Michael calls for the Berlin Square Ups club and entertained us with his calling at out MS club.

Arriving on the weekend prior to the dance gave us a chance to show them around our state a little with a trip to Victor Harbor.

If you can read German, check out their website at http://www.square-ups-berlin.de. (Use Google and you can translate).

We were thrilled to receive a return visit from Duke Okada from Osaka in Japan. Duke visited us back in 2006 and returned this year with his wife and two children for a brief holiday in Adelaide. In visiting both our MS and Plus clubs, we were priveleged to have him call. He has a smooth style and is very clear and he quickly endeared himself to our dancers. Their visit coincided with our Adelaide Idol easter Dance and I think they were quite entertained by the outstanding talent of our dancers.

Whilst here, we took the opportunity to expose them to some of the culinary delights that Adelaide has to offer and give them a sample of the Adelaide Festival with a tour of the “Northern Lights” display on Adelaide’s North Terrace.

We say “Arigato” (thankyou) and syonarrah to our Japanese friends and hope we shall cross paths again in the future.

Check out Duke’s club website on our “Square Dance Resources” links page. Why you might even spot some Aussies there!

A full-on night this one!! We’ll be serving spuds from 7pm. Please book if you’d like to join us for a spud tea.

We need your talent!! If you’d like to sing, read poetry, do a dance, perform magic, call a square dance or anything you’d like to share – please let us know. This is a chance to be part of the program and it is not being judged – it’s just for fun. Let Graham know as soon as possible so we can program the evening.

We have also just heard that a Japanese caller will be joining us on this night (and on the Wed Plus). You may recall Duke Okada who visited us about 18 months ago. He and his wife are coming over to Adelaide for a visit and we look forward to meeting them again and having him call.

So, spuds, various talents and a guest caller will make this a night not to be missed. We look forward to seeing you there.
