2014 January 27th – Aussie Night BBQ

As with many Aussies, we celebrated our National Day with a bar-b-que dinner with the added bonus of good night’s dancing to follow. Thanks to you all for coming and making it a great night. The BBQ cooked beautifully again by the Flagstaff Venturers and the hall looked great. Even had Aussie summer weather – hot outside but cool in so many ways inside!

Congratulations to our new graduates! It’s been a lot of fum and a lot of learning to master this mainstream program but we made it. A nice crowd was there to help welcome our new grads and it was a really lovely atmosphere. Thanks to Heather Wheeler (Society president) and Jan Stephens (vice president) for the welcoming words and “packs” presented. We welcomed a couple of interstate visitors, Con and Alma, from Mackay in Qld too. Special thanks to Les Tulloch who came along on request to set up gear for us as Graham had injured his back. Also thanks to John Casey and Ian Rutter for the calls on the night too.
Welcome to our newest members of the club and may you enjoy many years of fun and friendship with us!

Another Halloween rolls around and we go crazy decorating the hall and dressing up. This year we incorporated outr learners into the whole night and danced to the Hallowween songs and feasted on a VERY interesting looking supper. Thanks to all who came and the crew who helped set up and take it all down again.

2013 September 30th – Charity Night

(Click on pictures to enlarge then click again).
What a great crowd! We opened our doors to the public as a fund raising dance in support of the Cancer Care Centre. We ran a night of alternating teaching and Mainstream and threw in some mixer dances as well.
A great atmosphere and by all reports, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The President of the Cance Care Centre was there dancing the night away and said few words to welcome everyone and share an amazement at what square dancing really is – a whole lotta fun.
All proceeds from the night will be tallied up and presented to the Centre shortly and we thank all of you who came along and supported the night.

2013 September 21st – 28th Birthday

We celebrated our 28th Birthday this year with a Spring Theme dance at the Slovenian Hall. It was a great night and we managed a mixed program to include our current learners (who have nearly finished Mainstream), Mainstream, Plus and some Rounds.
The stage looked blooming marvellous decorated up in flowers and pot plants. Thanks to the people who contributed to the collection.
A big thanks to visiting callers Les Tulloch, Jeff Seidel, Ian Rutter and John Casey and to Thelma McCue and Les for cueing some rounds.
The supper was an absolute smorgasbord and all in all the night was just a whole lot of fun.

2013 August 12th – Pancake Night

Our annual indulgence once again attracted a good crowd. Learners and Mainstream dancers all joined in as we served Pancakes cooked there in the hall. The Pancake King again doing a superb job of cooking and serving up the delicacies.

We celebrated our Annual American Night on July 1st with a red-white-blue themed dance and the crowd really enjoyed themselves.
We danced a musical journey through the States of the USA and enjoyed a bountiful supper of mini hot dogs, donuts and apple pies.
Thanks everyone for joining us on that night – even if it was in actual fact Canada Day!! A fact Roger and Anne were quick to point out!

Here’s some photos of our Easter Dance. A nice crowd and a feast of Hot Cross Buns for supper.

2013 March 18th – St Patricks

(Click on pictures to enlarge, then click again on new picture)
St Patrick’s Day was celebrated with a hearty spud meal before the dance. O’Laughlins Catering brought their famous spud van along and served an extraordinary number of spud meals to a happy group of dancers.
Before we launched into the dancing we were pleased to be able to present the fundraising cheque from our Charity night to two representatives of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Rod and Sandy James (square dancers themselves!) received the cheque and thanked everyone for their donations. After hearing what it cost to keep a RFDS plane flying, we may have to run a few more charity dances!!
The rest of the night was a lot of fun with alternating brackets of learners and mainstream and everyone looked great in green dancing in the well decorated hall. Thanks to our committee and helpers for setting it up and packing away.
