We celebrated our Annual American Night on July 1st with a red-white-blue themed dance and the crowd really enjoyed themselves.
We danced a musical journey through the States of the USA and enjoyed a bountiful supper of mini hot dogs, donuts and apple pies.
Thanks everyone for joining us on that night – even if it was in actual fact Canada Day!! A fact Roger and Anne were quick to point out!

As February comes around we hold our annual Valentine’s Charity Dance. The scene is set with hearts and cupids decorations, the mood is set by dancing to love songs and the dancers are set in their reds and pinks to complement the theme.
As is custom we also operate a pre-loved square dance clothing sale during the night and this proved quite timely for our current group of dancers learning with us.
All proceeds from the night go to a charity we vote upon and this year it was the Royal Flying Doctor Service – a valuable asset to our rural communities.
Thanks to our helpers who set up the hall, to Nigel and Sheila who operated the the clothing stalls and to Alistair who provided his coffee machine as a welcome distraction.

2013 January 28th – Aussie Night

(Click on thumbnails to enlarge then click on new picture again)
And so the year is off to a flying start as we celebrate Australia Day on the public holiday Monday. As is our custom, we asked the local youth group, the Flagstaff Venturers, to supply and cook a BBQ tea for us. It helps us and they raise funds for their group as well.
Really nice to a see great crowd complete with Aussie colours of green and gold or flag colours.
The pavs for supper were just the icing on the cake (sorry!) and through the night we danced using some Australian music and songs.
Thanks to all who joined in and to our committee and helpers who helped us transform the hall.
Great to integrate our learners in the night with alternating brackets too – we all had a ball!

2012 September 22nd – Our 27th Birthday “Cabaret” night

(Click on thumbnails to enlarge, then click on the photo when it re-appears).

It was a very special night as we celebrated the Club’s 27th Birthday. The theme was “Cabaret” and the hall looked oh so classy! Lights, props and costumes!! Great turnout and a lot of people took to the theme either in Cabaret style or red and black colour schemes. Combine that with good music and a supper fit to feed any Cabaret army and you have a wonderful night.

Matthew Mills from Bundaberg in Queensland was our feature caller. He did a really nice job and really entered into the theme with his music and style.

During the night we presented 10 year membership awards to Helen Hahn and Graeme Zilm and a 20 year (gold) membership to Pamela Thompson. Others receiving the awards who couldn’t make it were Brian Gill (10 years) and Sid and Pauline Dowden (20 years).

One highlight of the night was a moment on stage when young Emily Reid, daughter of Clare and James Reid (now in Qld) delivered a speech on behalf of Mum and Dad who couldn’t be there. Dressed in her cabaret outfit she had the crowd transfixed – beautiful!

Thanks also to Jeff Seidel & Les Tulloch for their calling and Les and Thelma McCue for the cueing – all added to a memorable evening.

Here’s a couple of videos of Matt in action on the night…

2012 August 13th – Charity Social Dance

Our doors were open to the public for our Charity dance and we welcomed new friends along to learn some square dancing and raise funds for a worthwhile charity. We selected the Cancer Care Centre as our benefactor and all proceeds from the door, raffle and donations were presented to them at the end of the night.

What a crowd! The atmosphere was infectious as our new friends learned some square dancing and a few mixer dancers thrown in. In a matter of minutes the whole floor was dancing – not bad for just walking in off the street. It is really heart warming to see people enjoying themselves so much without television or electronic gadgets – just dancing with each other and meeting new friends.

Kevin Turner, the manager from the the Cancer Care Centre, was there to tell us about the organisation and was the pleased recipient of the money raised at the end of the night. We also welcomed two of his staff on the night – Fran and Jocelyn. Your boss dobbed you in!

We’re holding our doors open to the public until September 17th if you’d like to come along and take part in this wonderful activity. No prior dance experience needed, no need to have already been to this Charity Dance either. Just come, bring friends, family, colleagues and we’ll guarantee a fun night.

Thanks to everyone for your support of the Cancer Care Centre and our club. what a night!!

2012 August 6th – Pancake Night

As August comes around we once again indulge the inner desires of our gastonomic needs and put on our annual Pancake night.

The “Pancake King” was again summoned to  perform his unique craft and entertain the masses. With the smell of cooking crepes and shrieks of success as our dancers successfully caught the tossed delights hot off the  hotplate, it was a fun atmosphere. Take a look at the video to see it all in action.

2012 May 14th – Mothers Day Dance

(Click on images to enlarge) Thanks to Robert Scott for the photos.

We celebrated Mothers Day with pre dance champagne and juice and offered complimnetary admission to our ladies. Floral decorations adorned the hall and stage and an extra bonus this year was afforded by a serve yourself coffee machine.  Thanks to one of our members, Alastair, a full on goffee machine was set up to serve cappucinos, lattes, hot chocolate etc. It was a popular attraction and we even had a little coffee lounge area set up.  Great turn up for the event and pinks seemed to be the colour of choice.

2012 March 19th – St Patricks Spud Feast

As is our custom we held a Spud night for our St Patricks theme thsi year. Dancers enjoyed a catered spud tea before the dance courtesy of the spud van. Great to see everyone dress to the green theme too.

We had a special guest – Kathryn from the Guide Dogs brought in one of the beautiful dogs to accept the cheque donation from our St Valentine’s Charity night. She was thrilled and gave us a run down on what it takes to train these lovely animals. Both dog and caller behaved themselves on stage and we were proud to present them with the donation.
